If you have been bereaved by suicide you are not alone. There were 843 deaths by suicide in Scotland in 2008; 64 of these deaths were in Tayside.
The loss of a loved one under any circumstances can be a difficult and painful experience to live through and to come to terms with. For people bereaved by suicide the sense of shock and social isolation are often greater than for those bereaved by other causes of death. The search for an explanation; a reason why our loved one made this decision can be endless. The questions “why”? and “why didn’t I see the signs”? can sometimes weigh the bereaved person down with feelings of guilt, abandonment and rejection. It can sometimes feel very difficult to talk to people we know about the death of our loved one through suicide, perhaps because of a fear of judgement or social stigma. To help to overcome this sense of isolation Insight Counselling is working in partnership with the Samaritans to provide a specialised service for people bereaved by suicide in Tayside.
